Light At The End Of A Long Tunnel

The past 5 years have been quite the struggle, following this rare but torturous discovery.

The symptoms of the mercury toxicity finally wore off, for the most part.....most of which was realised about 2 years after amalgam removal, and detoxing. However, the permanent damage was irrepairable. I had elected to have all of my maxillary teeth removed about 3 years ago, because the nerves were very slowly dying as a direct result of the toxicity. I just couldn't bare the chronic pain any longer. Now, all is well, for the most part, from a pain standpoint.......other than some residual TMJ, resulting from all that had happened.

The latter part has finally become manageable. Through physical therapy, trigger point therapy (a form of therapeutic massage), and the use of oral muscle relaxants, pain-free days are now a reality again, after 5 years of torture.

To anyone who may have stumbled across my blog, in seek of advice, whether it be for heavy metal detox or TMJ management, please feel free to email me direct (jcarlozzi@yahoo.com). I would be more than happy to try and help seek out direction towards a solution.

Amalgam Sickness and Heavy Metal Toxicity

I am posting this, in order to offer assistance to any whom might have shared my experience.
Fortunately, I am a pharmacist, possessing a significant medical background, and have spent hundreds of hours researching this illness. I hope my knowledge may prove of benefit.

So, here is my story. Last year, I had a fixed bridge placed, composed of predominantly Palladium. I had an allergic reaction to it, or, at least thought that this was the solitary problem. The source had been removed, and a porcelain bridge replaced it. The symptoms worsened following its placement. The second bridge was removed. The mystery was growing, as I was reacting to a supposedly inert substance, of which I already had the same in my mouth, in the form of a crown, for years without experiencing problems.
As a last resort, I communicated with a DDS in the UK that specialises in these cases. The truth suddenly became clear. In a swift sunrise, the realisation of mercury toxicity proved to be the primary culprit. Basically, mercury from my nine amalgams (silver-colored mercury fillings) had been released into my systemic circulation for so many years, that my liver and body had reached their threshold, and could no longer metabolise the toxin. Needless to say, all of the metals were removed. I am still undergoing a detoxification period, but will eventually persevere.

So, now, here is where I hope my knowledge can prove beneficial. Below is a link to the symptoms of mercury toxicity, and some treatment options.

http://www.diagnose-me.com/cond/C586629.html

My primary symptoms included extreme burning sensation in mucosal regions of the head and face (eyes, nose, mouth, throat), metallic taste, systemic chronic fatigue, severe high blood pressure (averaged about 150/110), and extreme tooth and jaw pain. To those that have experienced the latter, you are all too aware of exactly what I am referring to, as it awards a new definition to the word "PAIN."
Some of my less severe symptoms included mental fogginess and difficulty concentrating, blurred vision, unexplained extreme tiredness, unexplained cystic acne on my back over the past year, and unexplained periods of chest pain.

My dietary suggestions: Add lots of garlic and cilantro to your diet. Absolutely NO FISH!!! Try to avoid MSG, which can prove almost impossible. LOTS OF PROTEIN!
Why? Garlic is a powerful chelator of heavy metals. Cilantro is effective in mobilising mercury from the central nervous system. MSG is a neuroexcitatory chemical, which will probably enhance your neurosensitivity to pain. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein, and are essential for your body's manufacture of liver enzymes and substrates responsible for detoxifying heavy metals. Without surprise, this will not be an appropriate time for a starvation diet.

Begin the following herbal regimen:

L-Glutathione 500mg twice daily
Vitamin C 3000-5000mg daily
Selenium 200mcg daily (not at the same time of day as VIT C, as VIT C will inactivate Se)
Alpha Lipoic Acid 200mg daily
One capsule General Antioxidant daily
Milk Thistle - 1 capsule twice daily

Take as much Vitamin C as your stomach can tolerate. The dose limiting side effect is usually diarrhea. This is actually a good thing, as mercury is predominantly eliminated from the body fecally. That said, you must also make certain that you are having regular bowel movements.

Follow the above regimen for at least 3 to 6 months, even if the symptoms begin to disappear.

Avoid chelating agents, as they can be kidney and liver compromising. Your liver is already under enough stress, and dosen't need any assistance in becoming worse. In some more severe cases, such as MS patients, etc., these can prove more of a benefit than a risk. However, I really do not recommend this treatment modality.

Next, find a holistic DDS that is experienced in amalgam removal. Their site link is below.

http://www.iaomt.org/

Have all metals removed from the mouth, and use composites to replace the amalgam fillings. These are basically polymers that are tooth colored, and are, for the most part, universally biocompatible.
Have the procedure done over 2 days. Purchase a product called Spirulina (blue-green algae), and bring it to the dentist's office on both days. It is to be used as a mouth rinse post-procedure, as it is efficacious in binding up any mercury particulate matter that remains. You can also ingest this as part of your detox protocol (1 tsp in 1 cup or more of H2O). However, I must warn you that it looks and tastes totally repulsive (I refer to it as "sea-slime from the bottom of the ocean").

If you happen to have any amalgam tattoos present on your gumline, have them removed as well. I recently had the last of mine removed, and the findings were not pretty. The bone beneath one tattoo had totally turned to mush, in the depth of about 9mm. In plain English, this translates to significant, but not the end of the world, as bone will regenerate itself over time.

Wait a good 3 to 6 months before placing anything else permanently (i.e. - bridge). This will provide a time period necessary for your hyperactive immune system to calm down, and, hopefully, allow you to tolerate any new materials that may be needed to be placed dentally. If you need a bridge during this time, wear temps.

I also highly recommend a full scale biocompatibility test, which lists your personal compatibility with ALL dental products on the market. Most IAOMT dentists can do this. The cost is about 250 USD, but well worth definity.

Be prepared to spend lots of money. However, your health is now more important than your checkbook. In the USA, purchase Spirulina and Glutathione at Wild Oats. DO NOT purchase these on the internet, as many sellers do not have to adhere to FDA guidelines for efficacy. Purchase everything else at Walgreens or Walmart, as it will be far less expensive.

So, I think that is enough info for now. Besides, I believe that I am acquiring carpel-tunnels syndrome from typing all of this.

I hope this proves helpful. If not, please feel free to email me personally (jcarlozzi@yahoo.com).

If I cannot provide answers, then I will try my best to direct you to the correct source.

Good Luck.
